The National Monuments Service's description
In low-lying area close to stream; discovered during construction of gas pipeline; partially excavated September 1982 (Doody 1987, 49-50). Straight-sided, rectangular pit (2.4m E-W; 1.6m N-S; D 0.6m) was found close to present E edge of mound material. Presence of earth-cut slots at three corners and a substantial post hole at each corner suggest it was wood lined. The trough was apparently filled with burnt material shortly after it ceased use and was not, at the time of excavation, self-filling with water. A further two similarly sized pits found, revealed no traces of a lining; both were self-filling with ground water. There were no finds contemporary with the use of the site.
