The National Monuments Service's description
There is a reference in 1183 to an 'old castle' in Shandon near the stream, flowing from mill of St. Nessan to the west of North Gate Bridge (CO074-030002-) (Bradley et al. 1985, 96). There are no evident remains in this area of such a structure.
