The National Monuments Service's description
This fulacht fia was discovered during archaeological monitoring in advance of the construction of the N22 Ballincollig Bypass and was excavated in 2002. It consisted of a rectangular trough (2.7m x 1.4m; D 0.32m) filled with heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil. It was partially cut at SE by an oval pit (0.85m x 0.6m; D 0.52m) also filled with heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil. Both the trough and the pit were also cut by a single N-S field drain (Wth 0.45m; D 1.1m). This is one of a group of six fulachtaí fia and burnt mounds (CO073-137----, CO073-139----, CO073-140----, CO073-141----, CO073-142----) which were excavated here, the closest of which are a possible fulacht fia (CO073-139----) and a possible burnt mound (CO073-140----) which lie c. 20m to the N and NE, respectively. (Russell 2004c, 78, site 9; 2004d, 17-18)
