The National Monuments Service's description

Slightly hump-backed road bridge (Wth c. 7.6m; long axis NE-SW) over River Blackwater. Ten semicircular arches with eight arches to S heavily repaired; two of which appear to be replaced. Two arches to N have dressed voussoirs and pointed cutwaters of ashlar limestone. Vertical stone coping along parapet wall. Possibly Blackwater Bridge referred to on inscribed plaque at Kanturk bridge (14820), which was erected in 1757 at Gortmore, of which Purcell and Bastable were trustees (O'Keeffe & Simington 1991, 250).

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
