The National Monuments Service's description

Vacant one-storey structure c. 1.5km S of Banteer. Indicated on 1842 OS 6-inch map as rectangular structure (long axis N-S) with short projection to W, named 'Banteer Nat. School'. Front elevation (E) of 7 bays with double sash windows; brick-built gabled porch projections on either side of three central bays, side doors on porch projections. Side elevations one bay deep. Windows to rear blocked up. Hipped slate roof with two brick chimneys. Date plaque on porch of 1841. Yard divided into two, with toilets to rear. School closed in 1976; work began in 1994 to turn old school building into 'Banteer Old School Heritage and Drama Centre' (Eldridge 1996, 74).
