The National Monuments Service's description

In pasture, on S-facing slope, on S side of farmyard. Circular raised area (diam. c. 30m) enclosed by inner earthen bank (H 1.85m); intervening fosse (D 0.35m); outer earthen bank (H 1.2m) SSW->WNW. Height of inner bank raised on W and N sides by dumped material; elsewhere inner face slopes gently down to centre giving saucer-shaped profile to interior. Fosse infilled WNW->NE and covered over by concrete slab; filled with slurry and regularly emptied NE->WSW. Outer bank incorporated into field fence system. Souterrain (CO030-227---) in interior. According to Bowman (1934, 515), '...called, (on 1841 O.M.) Lisnaheen, which Dr. O'Donovan (1841 F.B.) derives - Lios Naithín (Little Nath's fort)...an aged resident called it Lisnahoon, which is, very probably the correct name; Lios na h-Uamhain - Fort of the Cave'.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
