In Kanturk. Road bridge (Wth 4.25m; long axis E-W) over River Allow just N of confluence with River Dalua and 50m E of Kanturk Bridge (14820). Known locally as "Greenane Bridge". Random-rubble limestone construction. Six segmental arches; dressed voussoirs with slightly prominent key stone; low D-shaped cutwaters. Arch on E side slightly skewed to accommodate road approaching from S. Thin piers, base of large blocks of limestone, some of which appear to be reused. Parapet wall of random-rubble sandstone with limestone slabbed coping; plaque in S wall, inscribed in Latin, gives date of 1745 for construction (O'Keeffe & Simington 1991, 247). Second plaque, described by Grove White (1905-25, vol. 3, 209) as badly defaced with "Grand Jury" inscribed on it, no longer evident. Bridge widened upstream (N) by 5.95m in similar style; arches use wide curved voussoirs similar to extension to Kanturk Bridge. Single bridge indicated on Down Survey (1655-6) barony map over both rivers, on or near site of present bridges.
