In Newmarket. Former C of I parish church of Clonfert; used in 1970s as a school, now a welding workshop. Cruciform church (long-axis E-W) of coursed ashlar construction. Nave lit by wide pointed windows; wooden window frame has perpendicular tracery. Entrance door in E-wall of N transept, chimney atop S transept gable. Ornate three-sided apse to E with buttresses: slim pointed windows and parapet wall. Church built in 1830, capable of accommodating 300 people on or near site of earlier church which stood in 1629 (Brady 1863, vol. 2, 128-137). Improvements to church made in 1892 (Cole 1903, 184). Lofty tower and spire referred to by Lewis (1837, vol. 2, 428) no longer survives. Porch indicated on 1937 OS 6-inch map on W gable no longer survives. Graveyard to S has headstones dating from mid-18th century to present day, including Sarah Curren's. Brady (ibid.) refers to early 17th century burials here.
