The National Monuments Service's description
In Buttevant, in NW corner of graveyard (14550), incorporating earlier tower (CO017-053003-) which is associated with nearby Franciscan friary (14382). Ornate cruciform church (long axis N-S); W and S elevations parallel to street and built of coursed limestone ashlar topped with embattled parapet and hood moulded windows; E and N elevations of random ashlar. Buttresses between bays and on corners, topped with pinnacles on W side. Nave (long axis N-S) lit by three pointed windows in each side wall. Embattled bell tower in angle formed by nave and W transept; similar in size to earlier tower (see 14382) in angle formed by nave and E transept; date plaque of 1831 in S elevation of W tower. Large pointed windows in N chancel wall and in E and W gable-ends of transepts. Interior has plaster concave roof with ornate rib groins; wooden galleries in nave and transepts. Built 1831-7 to design of Charles Cotterel of Cork (Killanin 1962, 116; though Brash (1852a, 95) suggests not yet fully completed in 1852) to replace earlier chapel (14734). Church described in detail by Lewis (1837, vol. 1, 236).
