The National Monuments Service's description
Locally known as site of Kilmichael burial ground (14169) and church. Low undulations noted in area of site. According to Grove White (1905-25, vol. 4, 243), 'Kilmoheel or Kilmichael...the site of a very early church or castle' was situated 'in the centre of the demesne...a large mound'; burial ground (14169) lies immediately outside N boundary of demesne on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Grove White (ibid.) also mentions 'ruins of a R.C. chapel' in Templemary demesne.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
