The National Monuments Service's description

In scrubland, at confluence of two streamlets. Spring well (D 0.2m) with poorly defined edges cut by natural erosion. Water piped from well to cattle trough in field to NE. Streamlets feeding into well from NW are dry in summer. According to local information, venerated as 'Lady well' up to 1930s. According to Bowman (1934, 633), 'mass was offered up near this well in Penal Times and a priest was killed here. It was not a holy well'. McCarthy (1991, 88) noted that 'according to tradition mass was offered here'.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
