The National Monuments Service's description
Situated c. 5m E of a ruined vernacular house in the E-facing section of the foreshore on Scattery Island. An extensive midden (L 35m; av. D 0.3m) overlain by a layer of topsoil (max. D 0.2m) and a layer of paving/cobbling (max. D 0.17m) both of which extend the full length of the midden. The densest concentration is within a possible cut (L 2.2m; max. D 0.3m) containing a number of layers of shell (crushed oyster, limpets and cockles) and some bone fragments. (Dunne and Ryan 2001, 11)
