The National Monuments Service's description
On a low rocky knoll in a NE-facing slope, commanding wide views out N-E-S. Hachured on the first edition (1842) of the OS 6-inch map and indicated on the OS 25-inch plan (1897) and the Cassini edition (1920) of the OS 6-inch map on which it is the labelled ‘Caher’. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). This well-preserved subcircular cashel (int. dims. 40.1m E-W; 38.2m N-S) is defined by a substantial and partly overgrown stone wall (Wth 1.4-2.6m; max. int. H 1.6m; max. ext. H 2m) which survives best from W-N-ESE. From ESE-S-WSW it is robbed-out and interrupted, while from WSW-W it is non-extant. The wall has large facing-stones, especially along the N outer wall-face which comprises two lower courses of large stones (L c. 1m; H 0.2-0.4m) with smaller stones above which may have been added later. Another indication of rebuilding is that the wall here narrows from c. 2m wide at the base to 1.1m at the top. There is also a slight angle in the wall at the N. The uneven and rocky interior is highest at the centre, and is bisected by a meandering, roughly ENE-WSW-oriented drystone wall with a livestock gate in it.
