The National Monuments Service's description

In a slight hollow in high SE-sloping pastureland, with limited views except from E to SE. Hachured and named ‘Lissaun’ on the 1842 and 1920 eds. of the OS 6-inch map. Indicated as a cairn and named ‘Liosán’ on Robinson’s (1977) map. Described by Westropp (1896, 366) as ‘a small cairn “Lishaun” over-looking the narrow and cliff-girt Lough Avalla’ and listed as ‘Cairn’ in the RMP (1996). This small suboval cashel (int. dims. 22m N-S; 16.7m E-W; ext. dims. 29m N-S; 24m E-W) is defined by a stony bank or tumbled wall (Wth 2.8-3.5m; int. H 0.5-1.4m; max. ext. H 1.3m) which is most evident at the N and S. This enclosing element is cut into the hillslope at SW-NE, resulting in a greater internal height (2.3m) for the bank/wall along this part of the perimeter. The interior is mostly flat. Grass-covered field walls radiate from the cashel at the NNE and SE.
