Cairn - burial cairn

The National Monuments Service's description

On the densely overgrown (hazel, blackthorn and briar) S edge of a shallow valley through which a small stream flows W, and c. 65m SW of a low cliff over which a waterfall flows from the ‘Seven Streams of Teeskagh’ (1897 OS 25-inch plan; 1920 ed. of the OS 6-inch map), or ‘Seacht Srotha na Taosca’ (Robinson’s map of the Burren, 1977). Within an extensive multiperiod field system (CL010-064001-). Hachured and labelled ‘Ancient Grave’ on the OS 25-inch plan (1897) and the Cassini edition (1920) of the OS 6-inch map. This large overgrown suboval cairn (14m N-S; 12m E-W; H 1-1.4m) incorporates a cist (CL010-064079-) to the SE of centre. Westropp (1905, 218-9) noted that ‘the cairn is of large blocks, embodying a great boulder, evidently deposited there by older and mightier agencies than the cairn builders.’
