The National Monuments Service's description
On the E-facing slope of a ridge in improved pasture with good views over lower ground NE-E-S and sheltered by higher ground to W. Indicated on the first edition (1840) and hachured on the later, Cassini edition (1916) of the OS 6-inch map. Also hachured on the intervening OS 25-inch plan (1890s) where it is shown traversed by a wide footpath (Wth c. 2m) leading from the main road to the W to a spring well c. 250m to the ESE. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP (1996).
A subcircular area (ext. diams. 38m N-S; 34.5m E-W; int. diams 32m N-S; 27m E-W) is defined by overgrown walling which is best preserved at N (Wth 1.1-1.65m) but mainly reduced to an earth and stone bank (av. Wth 4m; int. H 0.6m) elsewhere. Intermittent outer wall facing (H 0.5-0.7m) is best preserved NE-ENE. The enclosing element has been robbed out from E-ESE, and survives as a bank of loose stone (Wth 2.7m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H c. 1.2m) in the S. The interior is lower in the W where it is dug into the ridge side (D c. 1.5m), and slopes down towards the E elsewhere.
