Ringfort - cashel

The National Monuments Service's description

In gently undulating pastureland, with exposed limestone pavement to the NW, within a relict local field system (CL008-004001-) as well as a larger multiperiod field system (CL008-109001-). Hachured on the 1842 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and indicated on the 1920 ed.; named 'Caherglasha' on both maps. Labelled 'Cathair Ghlaise' on Robinson's (1977) map. Listed as 'Enclosure' in the RMP (1996). This subrectangular cashel (int. dims. c. 24m NE-SW; c. 22m NW-SE) is defined by a collapsed stone wall (base Wth 4m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1m) upon which a later field wall has been built. Traces of the original outer wall-face remain intact at NW and N. The interior slopes gently to the SSE. According to Westropp (1905, 357) a souterrain (CL008-012001-) is associated. An overgrown wall (8m NE-SW) abuts the cashel at SSW.
