Ringfort - cashel

The National Monuments Service's description

On a narrow, level terrace of partially improved pasture at E foot of a low rise, in a large multiperiod field system (CL005-014001-). Hachured as a circular enclosure and named ‘Cahernatinna’ on the 1842 OS 6-inch map and indicated as a rectangular enclosure on the 1916 ed. O’Donovan (Comber 1997, 73) recorded its name as ‘Caher-na-Teinné’ which he translated as the fort of the fire and described it as a caher ‘in a state of great delapidation’. Westropp (1901, 15) did not consider it an antiquity and puzzled over how it got its name. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP (1996).

A subrectangular enclosure (30m E-W; 20m N-S) defined by a modern stone wall (Wth 0.5-0.7m; H 1.2-1.4m). Horizontal blocks at the base of the wall at NE and midway along the N and E sides may be the remnants of a cashel wall.
