The National Monuments Service's description

On the level, upper (between 700’ and 800’ contours) NE slope of Knockauns Mountain (OD 983’) in improved rough grazing and within a large field system (CL004-098----). Indicated on both the first edition (1842) of the OS 6-inch map and the later Cassini edition (1915). Probably referred to by Westropp (1901, 11) as one of, ‘… four ring-walls [possibly along with CL004-039----, CL004-040---- and CL004-039041----], about 100 feet [c. 30m] in diameter … three … levelled; the fourth … nearly gone.’
Recorded on the OS 25-inch map as an irregularly oval-shaped area (est. diams. c. 30m E-W; c. 26m N-S) defined by an enclosing wall. No visible surface trace of walling survives but a very faint bank, covered in meadowsweet, between N and NE and a definite counter-scarp (H 0.8m) from WSW to NW appear to follow an enclosing line around a grass-covered interior.
