The first temples, chapels or koylous are generally described as being buildings in straw or in wood and straw. Mentions of corrugated sheet metal are non-existent before the second half of the 19th century. It is necessary to distinguish three types of temples: large urban temples (late 19th century); plantation temples; personal, family temples. The Mardévirin temple was completed in 1957. This chapel comprises a building, four shrines, a Nargoulan mast and an annexed building. The building is in concrete masonry. Covered with a terrace, it is surmounted by two vimanams. The porch, supported by three concrete pillars, is preceded by a metal roof structure. Three shrines are situated under the portico. Built in concrete masonry, they are covered with a terrace and crowned with polylobed pediments. The fourth shrine is situated in front of the portico. Four pillars covered with a terrace are surmounted by a vimanam.
