En 1857, un décret impérial transfère de Saint-Paul à Saint-Pierre le tribunal de première instance. Louis Maillard, ingénieur colonial, est probablement l'auteur des plans du monument. Il conçoit un édifice rectangulaire, de style néoclassique, formant une grande salle d'audience sur deux niveaux. Sur les côtés, partiellement, et sur l'arrière, l'ingénieur entoure la salle d'audience de bureaux et d'annexes formant appentis autour du bâtiment principal. Pour les différencier, les baies de ces annexes sont en plate-bande. Le bâtiment a conservé en grande partie sa polychromie d'origine. En 1973, le tribunal est transféré rue Archambeaud, dans des locaux neufs.

History
In 1857, an imperial decree transfers the court of first instance from Saint-Paul to Saint-Pierre. Louis Maillard, colonial engineer, is probably the author of the plans for the monument. He designed a rectangular building, in neoclassical style, forming a large courtroom on two levels. On the sides, partially, and at the rear, the engineer surrounded the courtroom with offices and annexes forming lean-tos around the main building. To differentiate them, the openings of these annexes are in flat band. The building has largely retained its original polychrome decoration. In 1973, the court was transferred to rue Archambeaud, into new premises.
