Conception et réalisation confiées à l'issue d'un concours au sculpteur Emile Edmond Peynot. Le monument est composé d'un obélisque en granit qui constitue un socle au buste sur piédouche en bronze. Deux statues de grande taille ornent la partie inférieure du monument de plan en C : une dryade debout, appuyée sur le tronc d'un chêne, tenant une lyre ; une évocation de Chloé ou une allégorie du Printemps assise sur un rocher joue de la flûte à deux tuyaux. Une palette de peintre gît au sol. Le thème choisi rappelle les domaines de prédilection de Louis Français : le paysage et les scènes mythologiques. Sa composition et le traitement fluide des personnages font de cette oeuvre un bel exemple de la statuaire monumentale de l'époque Art Nouveau.

History
Conception and execution entrusted following a competition to the sculptor Emile Edmond Peynot. The monument is composed of a granite obelisk which constitutes a base for the bust on a pedestal in bronze. Two large-scale statues ornament the lower part of the C-shaped plan monument: a standing dryad, leaning on the trunk of an oak tree, holding a lyre; an evocation of Chloé or an allegory of Spring seated on a rock playing the double-pipe flute. A painter's palette lies on the ground. The chosen theme recalls the favourite domains of Louis Français: landscape and mythological scenes. Its composition and the fluid treatment of the figures make this work a fine example of monumental statuary of the Art Nouveau period.
