History
The castle adjoins the parish church, originally a castle chapel. Both occupied a vast platform delimited by a wide ditch. The seigniory of Cognac is mentioned from the 13th century. The castle is a composite building consisting of several building bodies constructed or modified at different periods. The oldest part is the square tower whose masonry in fine granite ashlar is largely preserved on the west side.
