La filature fut créée, en 1856, sur les bases d'un moulin à eau remplacé au début du 19ème siècle par une minoterie. Dès 1863, le site acquiert son envergure actuelle avec la construction de nombreux ateliers, magasins de stockage et bureaux. Emblématique de ce que fut la révolution industrielle en Poitou-Charentes, son évolution dénote de l'attention particulière portée à chaque époque aux nouvelles technologies. La présence d'une très rare turbine Callon de 1860 et d'un bélier Bollée confère à cette usine un réel intérêt en tant que patrimoine technique. Une importante cité ouvrière implantée sur le site témoigne également de la gestion paternaliste des ressources humaines qui participait, à cette époque, de la logique globale de développement industrielle.

History
The spinning mill was created in 1856 on the basis of a water mill replaced in the early 19th century by a flour mill. From 1863 onwards, the site acquired its current scale with the construction of numerous workshops, storage warehouses and offices.
