History

Travellers' hotel constructed from 1909 to 1912 by the architect Antonin Maurou. Façade with decoration marked by Art Nouveau. This building is an adaptation of the type of hotel with central atrium under glazing. It has retained all of its original features. The hotel occupies the body of earlier building on the street. Extended at the rear by a terrace under a marquise, it opens onto a garden at the back of which stands the old stables and carriage house building. The garden retains only a vestige of the rocaille built around a small pond. The building has a ground floor over basement and two storeys. Two sides are bordered by galleries serving the rooms facing the street and the garden; the third side is occupied by the staircase; the fourth side by a series of rooms against the western party wall. The front façade is decorated with vegetal motifs in staff. In the upper part, elements in glazed ceramics punctuate this decoration. Inside, the essential decoration is concentrated in the atrium and consists principally of a fine set of ironwork, gallery balustrades and window sills. This decoration is completed by door frames in Beaux-arts style whose cornices are stamped with neo-rocaille mascarons. All of the joinery is preserved, as is the furniture from the 1930s, as well as the fireplaces with rectangular marble mantels.
