Le musée se compose d'une galerie principale bâtie en brique et pierre selon un plan simple rectangulaire et sur un seul niveau. Une corniche en pierre calcaire, de style classique ornée de trois cartouches dédiés aux Beaux-Arts agrémente la façade. Sur chaque extrémité de la galerie, implantés en équerre, deux pavillons d'accès présentent un décor de statues de sphinges tandis qu'un jardin de sculptures se déploie devant le musée. Celui-ci abrite une collection hétéroclite d'oeuvres, témoignages de la vie d'un philanthrope, amateur éclairé, Jules-François Lombard, qui confia la réalisation du projet, au tournant des 19ème et 20ème siècles, à l'architecte Jourdant.

History
The museum is composed of a main gallery built in brick and stone according to a simple rectangular plan and on a single level. A limestone cornice, of classical style decorated with three cartouches dedicated to the Fine Arts adorns the facade. At each end of the gallery, implanted at right angles, two access pavilions present a decoration of sphinx statues whilst a sculpture garden unfolds before the museum. It houses a heteroclite collection of works, testimony to the life of a philanthropist, an enlightened art lover, Jules-François Lombard, who entrusted the realisation of the project, at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, to architect Jourdant.
