Foundation of the hospital in 1665. The hospital built between 1930 and 1940 by André Laborie is considered the ideal prototype of a provincial medical centre: scientific concentration, transformation of the hospital into a health establishment; opening of the establishment to all. The building integrates the hygienist concepts promoted by Renon: maximum air and light; avoid excesses of heat and cold; eliminate noise. The architect adapts the existing buildings to the type of pavilion hospital, distinguishing the pavilions according to illnesses and patients. The construction of the new buildings is accompanied by the modernisation of the old ones with production of hot water and sewers. First phase of work in 1930: sanatorium and thermal power station. Second phase of work until 1934: men's pavilion. Third phase of work from 1935 to 1938: women's pavilion with maternity ward, Trousseau pavilion originally intended for sick children, consultation pavilion, and accommodation for the chief medical officer.
