Construite en deux phases, entre 1931 et 1938, l'église remplace un édifice plus ancien jugé trop exigu pour accueillir tous les paroissiens et répondre aux attentes liturgiques. Le projet retenu tient compte des modifications de la trame urbaine qui ont transformé le quartier à partir des années 1860. S'inspirant des principes architecturaux romans et byzantins, l'église de plan centré est couverte de cinq dômes octogonaux. A l'exception du clocher en brique, la structure de l'édifice est entièrement en béton armé. La façade reçoit un immense tympan sculpté par Henri Bouchard sur le thème de la vie de saint Pierre.

History
Constructed in two phases, between 1931 and 1938, the church replaces an older building deemed too small to accommodate all parishioners and meet liturgical expectations. The retained project takes account of modifications to the urban layout which transformed the district from the 1860s. Drawing inspiration from Romanesque and Byzantine architectural principles, the centrally-planned church is covered with five octagonal domes. With the exception of the bell tower in brick, the structure of the building is entirely in reinforced concrete. The façade receives a vast tympanum sculpted by Henri Bouchard on the theme of the life of Saint Peter.
