This submerged site is part of the lacustrine settlements studied in the Rhône-Alpes region containing the remains of human occupation in humid environments, of dwellings as well as the supporting piles of wooden buildings, still visible. These testimonies ranging from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age constitute one of the great themes of European prehistory. The Gojat site corresponds to the period of the final Neolithic (28th-27th centuries BC). This deposit was extensively surveyed from 1954 to 1962 then in 1971 and finally in 1983. In 1998, the remains were revisited during a systematic survey. Dendrochronological phases of felling were identified at -2702 and -2699, shortly before the phases recognised at Beau-Phare located approximately 2km away.
