Historique
Description

History
Located on the Paris-Lyon line inaugurated in 1849, Chagny station is operated by the Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (Cie PLM). Railway facilities are numerous at Chagny, with two passenger stations, a freight station, a marshalling yard, a depot and a roundhouse. A first wooden signal box is built in the 19th century by Cie PLM. This signal box is replaced in the 1930s by signal box n°2, with a concrete structure and brick infill, characteristic of Cie PLM models. This signal box is equipped with a Saxby signalling system, supplemented in the 1950s by a more modern signal box. Signal box n°2 remains in operation until 2016.
Description
Signalling post no. 2 at Chagny is installed on the edge of the railway line north of Chagny station. The building with rectangular plan is raised on three levels, the last level in slight overhang gives it the characteristic of signalling posts overlooking the lines. The structure is in concrete with red brick infill. The concrete roof is rounded and overhanging. Large openings are opened on the last level allowing observation of the lines. The ground floor was occupied by electrical installations. The second floor contains the levers of the Saxby system, whose transmissions descend through the first floor to the ground floor. Above the levers, an optical control panel reproduces a diagram of the lines concerned. The modern post equipment is dismantled.
