L'auberge est construite à Paris par les frères Martinet pour l'Exposition internationale des "Arts et Techniques appliqués à la Vie Moderne" qui se tient à Paris du 25 mai au 25 novembre 1937. Elle est rattachée à la section dite des "Eaux et forêts", comprenant trois pavillons, qui doivent montrer le rôle économique de la forêt et démontrer comment les techniques modernes peuvent être appliquées à l'architecture et à l'utilisation du matériau bois. L'auberge de la jeunesse présente l'intérêt de démonstration et de l'excellence de la cuisine au bois. A la fin de l'exposition le pavillon est transféré à Port-sur-Saône. Il est reconstruit en janvier 1938 pour 300 000 francs. Il permet de loger les préposés forestiers étudiant à l'école départementale du bois et des carburants forestiers inaugurée à Port-sur-Saône le 25 septembre 1938.

L'auberge est un bâtiment construit en rondins de sapin et couvert de tuiles. Elle comprend au rez-de-chaussée une grande salle commune, la cuisine, les locaux techniques, des lavabos et sanitaires, un escalier d'accès à l'étage. Les premier et second étages auxquels on accède par l'extérieur ou l'intérieur sont réservés à des dortoirs ainsi qu'aux sanitaires. Le tout est surmonté par des greniers. Un parc entoure l'édifice.

The inn was built in Paris by the Martinet brothers for the International Exhibition of "Arts and Techniques applied to Modern Life" which was held in Paris from 25 May to 25 November 1937.
