History

Building constructed around 1190, forming part of a belt of fortifications designed to protect the territory of the Benedictine abbey of Savigny. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the place becomes the residence of the abbots of Savigny and experiences a period of reconstruction or repair. At the Revolution, the castle is sold as national property. In the mid-19th century, the buildings are transformed into dwellings. The building presents itself as an irregular quadrilateral enclosing a courtyard, flanked by a square tower, called the Clock Tower (15th century), and a semicircular tower called the Dovecote Tower (15th-16th century). The Tower of the Emperors formerly located to the south was demolished in the 19th century. The south building, which housed the abbot's dwelling, was partly rebuilt around 1850. The chapel has retained its 15th-century door and presents vestiges of 17th-century painted decoration.
