The Eckbrecht de Durckheim family held the village of Froeschwiller in fief from the bishop of Strasbourg from the 14th century. The castle, adjacent to the village church, consisted of a main body flanked by two towers and outbuildings accessible by a door in a passage body. To the rear were garden and park. Around 1850, the castle was rebuilt and presented itself as a large rectangular villa, with a balcony carried by pillars. It was again transformed and enlarged in 1890 by the architect Emanuel von Seidl who added to it a mansard roof, with dormer windows with pediments and a tower covered with a belvedere. A second residential building was erected beside it, joined to the main building by an upper-floor passage carried by a depressed arch. The outbuildings bear the date 1891.
