Placée sous le double vocable de la Protection-de-la-Mère-de-Dieu et d'Alexandre-Nevski, l'église, consacrée en 1892, rappelle la vocation cosmopolite de la station balnéaire très fréquentée par l'aristocratie russe tout au long de la seconde moitié du 19e siècle et du début du 20ème siècle. L'édifice, de plan centé, adopte le style « romano-byzantin » fort prisé par les architectes de la fin du 19e siècle. History
Dedicated to the dual dedication of the Protection of the Mother of God and Alexander Nevski, the church, consecrated in 1892, recalls the cosmopolitan vocation of the seaside resort which was very frequently visited by Russian aristocracy throughout the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The building, of centralised plan, adopts the "romano-Byzantine" style greatly favoured by architects at the end of the 19th century. Although a certain sobriety characterizes the architecture of the façades, the play of roof volumes dominated by the central cupola gives the monument all its grandeur. The interior decoration combines elements specific to Orthodox worship with others, more usual, linked to local craftsmanship, such as the geometric stained glass windows by Mauméjean.
