Le site constituait un des trois oppida arvernes du bassin de Clermont-Ferrand. Il correspond à l'implantation type de ces agglomérations urbaines à caractère à la fois défensif et économique que l'on retrouve dans toute l'Europe à partir du IIème siècle avant notre ère. La fortification défensive a été mise au jour et des ouvrages de plusieurs époques ont, ainsi, été identifiés: le plus ancien, daté de la fin de l'Age du Bronze, et le plus récent correspondant à celui en usage au moment de la bataille. D'autres vestiges sont également connus, sur le plateau, pour la période gallo-romaine : sanctuaire, villa revêtue de mosaïques ainsi que des ateliers de métallurgie

History
The site constituted one of the three Arverni oppida of the Clermont-Ferrand basin. It corresponds to the typical implantation of these urban agglomerations with both defensive and economic character found throughout Europe from the 2nd century before our era. The defensive fortification has been uncovered and works of several periods have thus been identified: the oldest, dated to the end of the Bronze Age, and the most recent corresponding to that in use at the time of the battle. Other remains are also known, on the plateau, for the Gallo-Roman period: sanctuary, villa covered with mosaics as well as metallurgy workshops.
