Historique

History
Around 1650, a dwelling was erected, responding to the taste of the period, but in the sober style prized in the region: the rectangular main dwelling, flanked at its rear angles by two square pavilions, presents a main façade with orthogonal and symmetrical composition, enlivened by the contrast on the clear render of the bay framings and the harpended angle chains in Volvic stone. In the 18th century, enlargement of certain openings and refurbishment of the decoration of the rooms. These, arranged in sequence on either side of a staircase with a central core, received fireplaces, wood panelling and stucco. On the upper floor, the Louis XVI bedroom retains a double pair of corner cabinets whose doors are surmounted by wallpaper panels published by the Arthur et Grenard manufactory, around 1785-1790. These wallpapers reproduce engravings accompanying the Abbé Banier edition of Ovid's "Metamorphoses". Below, the château is adorned with French formal gardens on terraces, extended to the north and east by an English-style park. The richness of the hydraulic resources of the area enabled them to be provided with a complex network of fountains, basins, canals and ponds which, around 1870, were arranged for fish farming.
