La décision d'édifier un temple à Wanquetin est en rapport direct avec la forte population protestante présente dans le département dans la première moitié du 19ème siècle. Au début du siècle, la communauté de Wanquetin comptait près de trois cents membres soit la plus importante du département. Les travaux de l'oratoire de Wanquetin débutent en 1822 pour s'achever en 1828. En 1872, une maison est acquise afin d'abriter le presbytère. Une première restauration est entreprise au début du 20ème siècle puis des travaux de couverture sont réalisés en 1983. L'oratoire offre un aspect simple et sobre en accord avec la rigueur de la religion protestante et sa position au sein d'un espace rural. Premier temple édifié dans le Pas-de-Calais, il présente une typologie réduite. Il s'agit d'un bâtiment de plan rectangulaire doté d'une toiture à deux pentes abritant deux espaces distincts: le premier est utilisé comme vestibule et le second correspond à la nef et est dédié au culte et au recueillement. La majorité des éléments sont en bois.

History
The decision to erect a temple at Wanquetin is in direct relation to the large Protestant population present in the department in the first half of the 19th century. At the beginning of the century, the community of Wanquetin numbered nearly three hundred members, which was the most significant in the department. The works of the oratory of Wanquetin began in 1822 and ended in 1828. In 1872, a house was acquired in order to house the presbytery. A first restoration was undertaken at the beginning of the 20th century and roofing works were carried out in 1983. The oratory offers a simple and sober appearance in keeping with the rigour of the Protestant religion and its position within a rural space. First temple built in the Pas-de-Calais, it presents a reduced typology. It is a building of rectangular plan fitted with a roof with two slopes sheltering two distinct spaces: the first is used as a vestibule and the second corresponds to the nave and is dedicated to worship and meditation. The majority of the elements are in wood.
