Construit de 1937 à 1939 au coeur du quartier ouvrier de Saint-Pierre par l'architecte Poyé, la Bourse du Travail est un ensemble architectural d'importance associé à un marché couvert ; outre des salles de réunions et des bureaux, cet ensemble comprend une grande salle des syndicats de 1200 places ornée de staffs et d'une fresque monumentale en cadre de scène, oeuvre des peintres Max et Paule Ingrand. La façade sur la place Crévecoeur est en béton recouvert de briques de parement brun foncé ; elle reçoit un grand bas-relief, oeuvre du lillois Coin représentant les allégories de la Paix et du Travail. Built from 1937 to 1939 in the heart of the working-class district of Saint-Pierre by architect Poyé, the Labour Exchange is an architectural ensemble of importance associated with a covered market; in addition to meeting rooms and offices, this ensemble comprises a large trade union hall of 1200 seats decorated with stucco and a monumental fresco in a scene frame setting, a work by painters Max and Paule Ingrand. The façade on Place Crévecoeur is in concrete covered with dark brown facing bricks; it receives a large bas-relief, a work by Lillois Coin representing the allegories of Peace and Labour. This monumental architecture is an exceptional example of the place held by trade unions in urban life and is a major work by architect Poyé.
