Historique
La construction de la chapelle funéraire de la famille de Berghes, propriétaire du château de Rânes, est liée au décès de Pierre de Berghes, blessé à la bataille de Sedan. L'architecte Victor Ruprich-Robert est chargé, en 1873, de la conception et de la réalisation de la chapelle familiale. Il s'agit d'un édifice monumental qui s'apparente davantage à une petite église. L'extérieur de la chapelle, bâti en granit, est de style néo-roman avec l'emploi généralisé du profil en plein cintre. L'intérieur, construit en pierre calcaire, évoque, par l'utilisation de l'arc en tiers point, le 13ème siècle. La très belle voûte est maçonnée et contenue par de puissants contreforts. Le mobilier, prie-Dieu et chaises, a été dessiné par l'architecte avec un soin particulier et demeure, à ce jour, visible. Cet édifice laisse apparaitre le style architectural de Ruprich-Robert, combinaison entre la structure médiévale et une ornementation très libre issue de ses recherches personnelles.

History
The construction of the funerary chapel of the de Berghes family, owner of the castle of Rânes, is linked to the death of Pierre de Berghes, wounded at the battle of Sedan. The architect Victor Ruprich-Robert is entrusted, in 1873, with the conception and realization of the family chapel. It is a monumental edifice which resembles more a small church. The exterior of the chapel, built in granite, is of neo-Romanesque style with the generalized use of the round-arched profile. The interior, built in limestone, evokes, through the use of the pointed arch, the 13th century. The very fine vault is masoned and contained by powerful buttresses. The furnishings, prayer desks and chairs, were designed by the architect with particular care and remain, to this day, visible. This edifice reveals the architectural style of Ruprich-Robert, a combination between medieval structure and very free ornamentation stemming from his personal research.
