Le puits n°9 fut creusé en 1909 afin de servir d'aérage aux puits n°1 et 3. La fosse fut mise en service en 1923. En 1950, elle servit à la fois à l'extraction, au service du personnel et du matériel et à l'entrée d'air tandis que le retour d'air était assuré par les puits n°1 et 3. En 1956, les équipements furent modernisés : le chevalement fut remplacé et une machine d'extraction électrique supplanta la machine à vapeur. Dès 1965, on entreprit de relier par le fond la fosse n°9 à la n°10. En 1973, la fosse n°9 reprit l'exploitation du gisement de la fosse n°10. A partir de 1975, le puits n°9 fut approfondi à 463m et la machine d'extraction, jugée trop lente, remplacée, ainsi qu'un nouveau chevalement installé. En 1976, le puits fut de nouveau approfondi jusqu'à 570 mètres. En 1977, les vieilles molettes furent démontées pour installer des câbles du nouveau chevalement et les travaux de creusement de l'accrochage furent entrepris. Le puits n°9 fut l'avant dernier à fermer dans le bassin en 1990. Il ests remblayé en 1991.

History
Shaft no. 9 was sunk in 1909 in order to serve as ventilation for shafts no. 1 and 3. The pit was brought into service in 1923. In 1950, it served both for extraction, for the service of personnel and materials and for air intake whilst return air was provided by shafts no. 1 and 3. In 1956, the equipment was modernised: the headframe was replaced and an electric extraction machine superseded the steam engine. From 1965, work began to connect shaft no. 9 to no. 10 at depth. In 1973, shaft no. 9 resumed exploitation of the deposit from shaft no. 10. From 1975, shaft no. 9 was deepened to 463m and the extraction machine, judged too slow, replaced, and a new headframe installed. In 1976, the shaft was deepened again to 570 metres. In 1977, the old pulleys were dismantled to install cables for the new headframe and work on sinking the landing was undertaken. Shaft no. 9 was the second to last to close in the basin in 1990. It was backfilled in 1991.
