Historique
L'usine de la Société Cotonnière d'Hellemmes, spécialisée dans la fabrication de la fibranne, a été élaborée par Charles Vollery et inaugurée en 1953. Elle correspond à la mise en place et à l'expérimentation d'un cycle de production à l'horizontale. L'architecte utilise un plan nouveau, suivant le déroulement du process, de plain-pied, et selon un axe de symétrie qui rassemble les transformateurs et la centrale de conditionnement d'air. La structure du corps principal est en béton précontraint. La toiture en sheds à double orientation permet l'éclairage naturel et intégre les gaines de conditionnement d'air en forme de trapèze. Cette usine était considérée comme l'une des plus modernes d'Europe, et reste le seul témoignage régional d'une esthétique moderne appliquée à ce type de programme. La production a cessé en 1991. L'usine a été achetée en 1999 par l'entreprise SETEB, qui y a installé sa société de ventilation, réfrigération et chauffage.

History
The factory of the Société Cotonnière d'Hellemmes, specialising in the manufacture of viscose, was elaborated by Charles Vollery and inaugurated in 1953. It corresponds to the implementation and experimentation of a production cycle at the horizontal level. The architect uses a new plan, following the process flow, on one level, and according to an axis of symmetry which brings together the transformers and the air conditioning central unit. The structure of the main body is in prestressed concrete. The roof with sheds of double orientation allows natural lighting and integrates the trapezoidal-shaped air conditioning ducts. This factory was considered one of the most modern in Europe, and remains the only regional testimony to modern aesthetics applied to this type of programme. Production ceased in 1991. The factory was purchased in 1999 by the company SETEB, which installed its ventilation, refrigeration and heating company there.
