L'arrêté fixant la réalisation du projet a été signé en juillet 1923. L'architecte Edouard Monestès et le sculpteur Lucien Brasseur sont retenus suite au concours lancé par la mairie. La première pierre est posée en 1924, les autres s'échelonnent jusqu'en 1929. La sculpture débute en 1930. L'inauguration a lieu en 1931. La base du monument a une forme proche du 'V'. Sur cette base s'élèvent des pierres de tailles variables dont certaines ont été sculptées. L'ensemble adopte une forme pyramidale. Au sommet, une Victoire aîlée sur un cheval surplombe le monument. Derrière elle, des deux côtés, deux colonnes de soldats semblent gravir l'édifice. Les soldats tiennent des lances et des drapeaux qui les recouvrent et leur servent de voûte. Aux extrémités, des soldats sont couchés et se relèvent à l'appel de la Victoire. Ils effectuent une ascension depuis la boue des tranchées jusqu'à la gloire.

History
The order fixing the realization of the project was signed in July 1923. Architect Edouard Monestès and sculptor Lucien Brasseur were selected following the competition launched by the town hall. The first stone was laid in 1924, the others were spread out until 1929. Sculpture began in 1930. The inauguration took place in 1931. The base of the monument has a form close to a 'V'.
