Dès 1886, la famille Ory-Groulois décide de lotir pour la bourgeoisie lilloise ses terrains situés le long des promenades de la Deûle et de l'Hippodrome. L'édification du quartier Canteleu est stimulée par un concours lancé par M. Orly-Groulois pour la construction la plus décorative pour le quartier de plaisance. En 1895, l'architecte Georges Boidin commande à son associé une grande maison non loin de la villa Saint-Charles construite par Victor Mollet. La villa est construite par l'architecte Albert Baert en 1897, illustrant l'expression de l'éclectisme architectural caractéristique de cette époque, mêlant évocations byzantines et régionalisme. History
From 1886, the Ory-Groulois family decided to develop for the Lille bourgeoisie its land situated along the promenades of the Deûle and the Hippodrome. The development of the Canteleu district was stimulated by a competition launched by M. Orly-Groulois for the most decorative construction for the pleasure district. In 1895, architect Georges Boidin commissioned his associate to build a large house not far from the villa Saint-Charles built by Victor Mollet. The villa is built by architect Albert Baert in 1897, illustrating the expression of architectural eclecticism characteristic of this period, mixing Byzantine evocations and regionalism.
