Historique
Cette maison d'habitation construite en 1927 constitue un témoignage important du style Art Déco dans la région Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Elle fut conçue par l'architecte belge Géo Bontinck pour le filateur d'origine belge Vandeveegaete. Deux sculptures de part et d'autre de la fenêtre du rez-de-chaussée représentent un footballeur, rappelant ainsi que le propriétaire était le bienfaiteur du club tourquennois, et une fileuse, allusion à son activité dans l'industrie textile. La façade est recouverte d'un placage de pierre calcaire coquillé blanche. La porte, en renfoncement, est en fer forgé. La cage d'escalier est éclairée par un grand vitrail qui représente une fileuse au rouet et les étapes de la mécanisation et de l'industrialisation de la filature. La composition est en hauteur, et les formes géométriques. Les plans ne sont pas ceux d'origine. La plupart des éléments de décor ont été vendus dans les années 1970.

History
This residential house built in 1927 constitutes an important testimony of the Art Deco style in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. It was designed by Belgian architect Géo Bontinck for the spinner of Belgian origin Vandeveegaete. Two sculptures on either side of the ground-floor window represent a footballer, thus recalling that the owner was the benefactor of the Tourcoing club, and a spinner, an allusion to his activity in the textile industry. The facade is covered with a veneer of white shell limestone. The door, set back, is in wrought iron. The staircase cage is lit by a large stained glass window which represents a spinner at the spinning wheel and the stages of mechanization and industrialization of spinning. The composition is vertical, and the forms are geometric. The plans are not original. Most of the decorative elements were sold in the 1970s.
