Vers 1907-1908, Arthur Balcaen, industriel biscuitier roubaisien, se fait construire une maison par l'architecte Paul Destombes-Pennel, qui travaille en collaboration avec son fils Paul Destombes-Prévost. L'intérêt de cette maison réside essentiellement dans la conception de la façade en brique de parement jaune composée de trois niveaux (dont un dans la toiture) , utilisant les jeux chromatiques des divers matériaux (brique, pierre, béton, céramique et lave émaillée). C'est aussi une composition originale dans le jeu des travées et la répartition des ouvertures ; l'importance du bow-window contribue à l'originalité de la façade. History
Around 1907-1908, Arthur Balcaen, a Roubaix biscuit manufacturer, had a house built for himself by the architect Paul Destombes-Pennel, who works in collaboration with his son Paul Destombes-Prévost. The interest of this house resides essentially in the design of the façade in yellow facing brick composed of three levels (including one in the roof), using the chromatic play of various materials (brick, stone, concrete, ceramic and enamelled lava). It is also an original composition in the play of bays and the distribution of openings; the importance of the bow-window contributes to the originality of the façade.
