Construit en 1900-1901 par l'architecte Albert Bouvy (1857-1938) et l'entrepreneur A. Pennel, à la demande de la Chambre de Commerce, le bâtiment de l'ancien Conditionnement était très en amont dans le processus de fabrication. Il servait au calcul, imposé à la profession depuis 1858, du taux d'humidité de la laine brute pour en déterminer le prix marchand avant sa mise en oeuvre sur les machines. Il occupait à ce titre une place considérable dans le secteur lainier roubaisien. L'édifice se développe sur un quadrilatère de près d'un hectare et se caractérise par une longue façade de 244 mètres, dont le riche appareillage en briques émaillées témoigne d'une grande homogénéité et d'un souci du détail décoratif. Sur de longs quais intérieurs étaient déchargées et rechargées les balles de laine avant l'expédition pour l'usinage. L'édifice a servi jusqu'en 1972. Il dépendait d'une condition publique, encore plus importante, construite en 1880, située boulevard d'Halluin.

History
Built in 1900-1901 by the architect Albert Bouvy (1857-1938) and the contractor A. Pennel, at the request of the Chamber of Commerce, the building of the former Conditioning plant was very much upstream in the manufacturing process. It served the calculation, imposed on the profession since 1858, of the humidity rate of raw wool to determine its commercial price before its use on the machines. In this capacity it occupied a considerable place in the Roubaix wool sector. The building is developed over a quadrilateral of nearly one hectare and is characterized by a long façade of 244 metres, whose rich arrangement in enamelled bricks bears witness to great homogeneity and concern for decorative detail. On long interior quays, bales of wool were unloaded and reloaded before dispatch for machining. The building served until 1972. It depended on a public conditioning house, even more important, built in 1880, located on boulevard d'Halluin.
