"Le fief de Challement est attesté dès le XIIIe siècle. Les seigneurs de Challement résidaient initialement en fond de la vallée au lieu dit "la Tour Taboureau". Aux XVe-XVIe siècles, ils se font édifier un nouveau château sur le flanc sud de la colline surplombant la vallée. Le château actuel est composé de trois parties : les communs commencés au XVIIe siècle et achevés au XVIIIe siècle, le vieux château qui n'existe plus qu'à l'état de vestige mais dont on peut admirer la tourelle d'escalier, le nouveau château bâti à partir de 1750 et resté inachevé. Le tout est complété par un corps de ferme, probablement édifié au XIXe siècle, et un parc régulier dont les éléments structurant subsistent : terrasses, bassins, fontaine, alignements de tilleuls et orangerie sous le château. "

History
"The fief of Challement is attested from the 13th century. The lords of Challement initially resided in the depths of the valley at the place called "la Tour Taboureau". In the 15th-16th centuries, they had a new castle built on the southern slope of the hill overlooking the valley. The present castle is composed of three parts: the outbuildings begun in the 17th century and completed in the 18th century, the old castle which exists only as a vestige but of which one can admire the staircase turret, the new castle built from 1750 and left unfinished. The whole is completed by a farm building, probably built in the 19th century, and a formal park whose structural elements subsist: terraces, basins, fountain, alignments of lime trees and orangery beneath the castle."
