Outre la statue de Marquet, le monument aux morts se compose dun socle monumental dû à larchitecte Camuzat, de bornes et de chaînes. Aux points cardinaux du socle sont représentés les écussons des villes de Nevers, Cosne, Clamecy et Château-Chinon. Au sommet, le groupe de Marquet représente un poilu blessé qui piétine laigle allemand. A ses côtés, une femme en deuil le couronne de lauriers et se penche pour poser, sur la tombe des morts pour la France, une couronne du souvenir. Il pourrait sagir dune allégorie de la France ou de la ville de Nevers.

History
Apart from the statue by Marquet, the war memorial comprises a monumental base designed by the architect Camuzat, posts and chains. At the cardinal points of the base are represented the coats of arms of the towns of Nevers, Cosne, Clamecy and Château-Chinon. At the top, Marquet's group represents a wounded infantryman trampling the German eagle. At his side, a woman in mourning crowns him with laurels and leans down to place, on the tomb of those who died for France, a wreath of remembrance. It could be an allegory of France or of the town of Nevers.
