Historique

History
In March 1683, Vauban submitted a first project for a bastion-style enceinte. The siege of 1761 demonstrated the weakness of the citadel to the south. Under the Consulat, the idea advanced by Vauban was put into effect. In 1811, the gate of Bangor and the redoubt B were completed. From 1840 to 1870 the curtains are built, the redoubt and the outwork of Beausoleil are completed. It is an almost unique example of a fortified enceinte of the 19th century, representative of the military history from Vauban to Napoleon III.
