Dans le quartier des Carmes, un manège est construit en 1787, sur les plans de François-Michel Lecreulx. Dès l'année suivante, ce corps d'élite, jugé trop onéreux, est dissous. Mesurant 96m sur 26, ce manège est réputé être le plus vaste d'Europe. La charpente en bois d'origine a été remplacée en 1903 par une charpente métallique due à la Grande Chaudronnerie lorraine.

History
After the attachment of Lorraine to France, Louis XV installed the French gendarmerie at Lunéville. In the district of the Carmes, a riding school was built in 1787, according to plans by François-Michel Lecreulx. From the following year, this elite corps, judged too costly, was dissolved. Measuring 96m by 26, this riding school is reputed to be the largest in Europe.
